On September 20 and 21, our Dance & Health Annual Symposium will focus on the benefits of dance for person with cancer. On this occasion, we welcome exceptional international speakers.

Emily Jenkins
Emily Jenkins is an acclaimed international artist who has been active in the dance sector for many years. In 2016, she founded Move Dance Feel, a UK-based dance company supporting women living with and after cancer. As director of this pioneering, award-winning initiative, Emily leads the Dance in Cancer Care training and is developing a network of practitioners operating in this space across the UK and abroad.
Clare Guss-West
Clare Guss-West is a former professional dancer, choreographer, dance educator, holistic health practitioner and author, specializing in the integration of Mindfulness and Concentration research into dance practice. Founder and co-director of the Dance & Creative Wellness Foundation in the Netherlands, Clare is also Chair of the Dance for Health Committee of the International Association of Dance, Medicine & Science.
Sheherazade Boyer-Tami
Sheherazade Boyer-Tami is a dance therapist, psychosomatician and Managing Director of Institut Rafaël Santé Intégrative. She has been involved for nearly 15 years in the fight against cancer and the improvement of quality of life through dance for patients with chronic illnesses, and runs weekly dance-therapy workshops at Institut Rafael - Santé Intégrative. She is founder of the association "La Danse des Femmes", which campaigns for the right to dance for all, and has also created the "En Mouvement" method, a training program for healthcare professionals wishing to integrate a bodily dimension into their support.
Frédérique Bernard
Frédérique Bernard is a physiotherapist and physical activity and intimacy expert at the Fondation contre le Cancer.
A fervent advocate of movement for health, both in prevention and during treatment and after the disease, she works to increase access to physical activity for people affected by cancer.
She will do us the honor of introducing the symposium by talking about the benefits of physical activity, and dance in particular, as a way of coping with cancer.
David Rodríguez
David Rodriguez is a professional dancer and cultural manager based in Switzerland. Since 2017, he has been spearheading health-related artistic and educational projects for non-profit associations such as the Oncolliga Girona Foundation (through the Girona en Moviment Dance Festival) and the Ligue vaudoise contre le cancer (via the "Dansons la vie !" program). In addition to events, these programs highlight the importance of movement before, during and after oncological illness. As a practitioner in this field, he is regularly invited to speak at university conferences.
Dr Peter Lovatt
Dr. Peter Lovatt is a dance psychologist. Known for his many television appearances and lectures, he demonstrates with boundless energy the positive impact of movement on human thought and behaviour, as well as on the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. He is the author of "The Dance Cure: The surprising secret to being smarter, stronger, happier and Dance" and he is Director of Movement in Practice and cofounder along with Dame Darcey Bussell of Move-Assure Dance for Mental Wellbeing.
Dr Alain Toledano
Alain Toledano is an oncologist and radiation therapist, founder and Chairman of the Institut Rafaël, and Director of the Integrative Health Research Chair at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers. A former chief of clinic at Paris Hospitals and former head of the oncology unit at the American Hospital in Paris, he is also medical director of the Hartmann Radiosurgery Institute and chairman of the medical board of the Hauts-de-Seine Oncology Institute. Over the course of his career, he has set up a number of associations and is actively involved in several learned societies. He is also the author of several books. Alain Toledano is a Knight of the French National Order of Merit.

Training
From October 21 to 25, Cécile Martinez will be offering a training session aimed at exploring disability, adapted and inclusive dance, and mastering teaching techniques and practical scenarios.

Alzheimer's League Conference
"Alzheimer's Disease and Physical Activity: Dance as a Means of Communication."
Laura Dethier, director of the "Quand on Danse" program, will present the benefits of this practice for everyone, and more specifically for people with Alzheimer's disease, on Wednesday, November 13 2024, at the Mosa Ballet School in Liège.

From Cancer to Dancer
The name of our annual theme couldn't have been better chosen! We are the winners of the Grants Relais pour la Vie 2024, funded by the Fondation Contre le Cancer. This will enable us to organize regular dance workshops in respite centers in the Province of Liège. Another step towards dance for all!
